ROWING.

, The foreslioro at Kaiwarra presented quite 'an animatod appearance last Saturday when the"Star Club members rowed off the Ladies' ■I'our's. ''It'was a regatta iii 'itself,' as nino Jheats-.w'broV disposed of, the crews in the "final turning out three times. Somo of tho 0110 resulting in a dead heat between Taylor's and Budge's creWs, and another being won ny two feet by Barron from Buckley. The winning crew| Hacon's, was stroked by Lance ;Bridge,; who rnwqd with good judgment and kept a' good length for so young an oar. Several important alterations have been made in the list' of-Star-Club's regatta representatives as originally selected and published in the press. Wilkinson and Buckley, the chosen stroke and ,three of the Junior given of jtheir inability to lill the positions, and with'their withdrawal tho structure so carefully built up by the Sbflbction Gbmmittee collapsed. As far as tho sonior crew is affected tho upheaval is all -to-the good, as it lias had the effect of inducing A. T. 33endall to resumo his old ■place':on'tho:threG;seatjiwhilo W. H. Brewer, tho original .three, Igoes: to fill tho gap in tho junior crew. Either Barron or Johnston, the : two and :b.ow; will be tried out. as stroko, and ono of tho maidens, -probably R. M. Brewer, will bo promoted to the other vacancy. This .will' mako" a "Very warm"juilior crow : indeed, And l i'will: : cciyside.rably strengthen tho seniors, ithouglr ■-•the-maiden "orow, ~,loft without, a stroke"; will-fail t&Hak'fe Such a rosy view of the situation. Hcwover, if Suckling were placed., stroke, it should bo easy with the matorial :''available'' 'to 1 fill'-the odd seat. Smytlid. is. thoUikeliest Candidate for the positipn, I ,and tliat for work is shown by his presoht"'positi6ii as stroke of a challenge maiden crow. I expect the voices of the said'challengd crow-Vill bo heard 'in- the land if Smythe is taken, but tho lotiofxhal-iange-crewsrhas'over>been;a hard one. However," by'"the 'ti'mo this appears in print tho whole matter will prbbSbly be officially settled,- but there'is'evo'ry 1 indication that tho adjustments v.'ill be-along the lines indicated.
Tho 'Club is fortunate in having been ablo to retain the services ,of the stroke, three, .and two of tho .youth's crew, who did so Hv6ll' in 'this youth's and maiden classes last season, and though tho new bow, Lawson, has yotf 'tb win his spurs (I don't know what uso spurs are to. fi:hoating man), still he. is a likely oar, and has had a good grounding as 1 'a 1 coxswain and-in-club racing.
WSflvcral challenge Screws are out, but I will postpone cbmment on these until final selections havo been made, when I hope to furnish a weekly criticism -of the rowing ti>roughput- the. three.,clubs, to which end 1 iWpukijtjiankEthe club secretaries to furnish rtliib notes of-interest? addressed "Wet Bob," ■Literary Oifice, Dominion".
