Most of the- long-distance walking records, given' in "Miller's Sporting Pamphlet," deal with consecutive hour performances. For instance, on May 11, 1879, in England, William Galo walked '2250 miles in 912 hours (consecutive), walking 1100 yards each and every fifteen- minutes (two . miles and ' a half each hour)." Weston's "average per hour is something over 2.06 miles. The greatest distance walked in 12 hours is 64 miles 241 yards, by P. Girdleston, on September 27, 1901, at Olil Trafford, The ' greatest distance walked in 2-1 hours is 127 miles U2lO yards, by W. Howes, on February 23, 1878, England,
