SWIMMING.

A meeting of tho Wellington. Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was hold last evouing, Mr. L. W. Lndwig presiding. It was rCßolved to write to the; New Zealand Council asking for'a-definition of. a beginner as applied to tests'for boys proficiency certificates. Mr. J. P. Firth .was appoin r ted to supervise tho tests. for ■proficiency, certificatos at Wellington College. It was decided to place on record the services rendered; to the Centre by Mr. W. T. Churchward, who has left tho city. The Secretary was instructed to call for volunteers to act as instructors for tho life-saving work. Messrs. A. A.Somcrville, A. W. Smith, and T.. Shields were appointed a Committee to supervise the boys swimming during the season. ; Dates .for carnivals wore drawn as follow :-Centre,. Januarv, 18; Y.M.C.A., February .1; Swifts, W; Wellington, 29; Thorndon, March 14. .
