AN INTERESTING CASE.
[BT TBLEGBAPn.—PKES9 ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, November 28. ■In tho Magistrate's Court at.Paeroa today an application was heard by, Joseph Nathan calling.on John Cochrano, a County Councillor, to show cause why he should not be ousted from office on the grounds that in the month of November 1905 Cochrane was a contractor, and was also duly elected as a. member of the Ohinomuri County Council while engaged in carrying out contracts for the Council, and that on December 11, 1905, Cochrane drew monejv-for the work from the Counc.il through an' agent, Michael Crosby. Tho evidence of T. N. E. Kenny, County Clerk, was to the effect that Cochrane held two contracts on tho dnto of tlio election, these boing transferred to J. Brideson on ■Decomber 7. The Magistrate (Mr. Bush) stated that ho was of the opinion.that Cochrane was a contractor'till Decembor 7, and therefore was not eligible to hold office, and he accordingly declared Cochrane ousted with costs amounting to £5 19s. against him.
