POSITION OF BOOKMAKERS. Auckland, November 27. AH bookmakers' offices are being closed in Auckland in consequence of the Gaming Act. The following telegram has been received from the Pi-emier Dy a leading bookmaker: —"In reply to your telegram;, the Act is now in force, and every rafting club authorised to uso the totalisator, must r on , tho application of any person. who. is, in the opinion of the committee or other, managing' body of the club, a (it and. proper.person to be granted a license, grant the licopse to such person to enter and;carry.-on the-:.bus-iness as a bookmaker. The license may be for any period the club may think fit, and a fee may be charged not exceeding £20 a ■ day." - MORE RICCARTON TRESPASS CASES. Christciiurch, November 27. Several further cases of trespass on: tho ' Riccartou racecourse were before tho Court to-day. , Counsel for bookmakers argued that legislation subsequent to the laying of the informations, showed that the Government wore opposed to such cases, and' Suggested that the informations be dismissed,: and laid again if the club thought fit. Tho benoh of Justices ultimately decided to adjourn the cases till December 11, so that Mr. Day, S.M., who heard the previous cases, should adjudicate on these. Substantial costs wore allowed to the bookmakers. HEAVY LICENSE FEE. ' Dunedin, November 27. The Tahuna Trotting Club has resolved to ' charge bookmakers £20 a day
