EXHIBITION RETURNS.
RECEIPTS AND EXPENDITURE. . 1 THE TOTAL LOSS. On Saturday a return was presented to Parliament • showing the receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent Exhibition from May 27, 1905 to October 31, 1907. The total expenditure was £239,970. At the .head; of the receipts stands tho item Government advances £87,617 7s. Other!items are:—Space fees, £24,686- admissions,- £44,322; realisation of properties, £16,469; season'tickets, £3483; side show royalties, £5845; concert hall revenue, £5166 • Besses o' th' Bam Band, £3419; Seddon Memmorial Concert, £469; commission on sale of pictures,'; £1962 6s. -3d. There .is also an item: —Bank-overdraft, Commissioners' account, £15,347 12s. 3d., and unprescntcd cheques, , £6871 13s. 4d.; loss cash in hand, etc;, £754 os. 6d.; total, £21,405 ss. ' Mr.Munro, the Commissioner of tho late Exhibition, who is at present in Wellington when questioned, said—in regard to net oost to the Dominion of tho Exhibition—that the position was that tho Exhibition had received up to October 31 last, £87,617 from tho Treasury,'of_which £27,117 had been refunded, leaving a net indebtedness to tho Treasury of' £60,500. Tho voto of £17 000 on the Supplementary Estimates (passed on Saturdav evening) was required "to extinguish the Commissioners overdraft (shown above), and'was considered moro than suffioioht (with certain assets) to cover outstanding liabilities. The total loss to tho Dominion therefore would bo £60 500 nlm £17,000—£77,500; ' 1 113
