■ M SESSION'S LINGERING DEATH. <• HIS EXCELLENCY'S ASSENT. ■ COMPLIMENTS AND FAREWELLS, The work which was so nearly finished on Saturday 'night kept Parliament sitting yes te'rday at/intervals from 11 o'clcok in the morning -until after G in the evening. Mock Parliaments, valedictions, compliments, an J parting courtesies were tho leading features of . the day. Amid tho showers of complimonts which the members of the Legislative Council bestowed.upon oach other, references to tho, improved status of that body wero prominent-, and the ease for an incrcaso of the.; honorarium was put by more than ono member. Tho exchange-of congratulations between the Leader of the Council and his fellow-members, though dignified, might fairJy' be called enthusiastic. Dr. Findlay also, .paid V.particularly graceful tribute to the: Speaker. ■ In tho House very littlo business' was done, but in "the'evening, when tit last the Royal Assent had beon. reecived-to the few measures-] remaining, complimentary ;speeches were made and tributes paid to tho leading political . ; aii'd the, officers' of the House., . !. The only piece of news in : the law-making lino, was the striking out of tho anti-Chinese clause of the Factories.Act Amendment Act, owing to the Govornor having stated that a Bill containing such provisions would -have to be reserved for the Royal Assent. '
