July 6,-.'.Mr. - Holdsworth, general manager, of tho company, referred to the."arduous" and " oxpensivo " nature of the service He stated that his company and the Hudtlart-Parker Company would ho prepared to giyo the service for', the £10,000 subsidy, plus the ordinary gratuities for mails carried at present rates. Subsequently,. at an interview,. tho Post-master-General offered £15 ; 000 per annum, without gratuities, and this the companies concerned accepted, though it is understood that there is to be no penalty in case of failure to connect.
