EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.

The Wellington District ' Institute ," of Teachers met last night. Mr. William Foster (President of the Institute)' occupied' the chair. The Secretary (Mrs-James Fanning) read a lottcr.from the Public Schools Sports Association, asking, for: the' co-operation of the Institute in the arranging of details for the entertainment of-the visiting New South Wales teachers' cricket team. It was decided that a sub-committee, consisting of the President (Mr. Foster) and Mr. It. Darroch, should bo sot up to act with tho Sports Association in the matter. Tho President referred to tho efforts of the executive- to induce the Government to admit teachers to superannuation on tho same basis as that upon which tho Public Servico Superannuation scheme had been framed. In.- reply to representations . made, the Premier had telegraphed:— "In reply to your telegram, it.is not possible to consider an amendment, in tho Education Superannuation Act this session. To attempt to do so would prevent tho passing of the measure this session. . . ." Since tho receipt of the foregoing, the Premier had inserted a clause which gave teachers tho option of voting on the micstion as to whether they would come under tho Public Service Superannuation Scheme. Thev had just hoard, however,.that the clause had been, struck out by tho Upper House, lie wished to know what action tho Institute intended to tako over tho natter. Mr. Darroch said that ho had been informed by a member of.the Lower House that tho clause had boon thrown out on a legal technicality. Tho Teachers' Superannuation Act allowed for broken servico, whereas the Public Service Bill contained no such provision.. En understood that the question would be fully considered during tho recess. Tho matter then dropped, it being understood that action ' would probably bo taken by tho members of the executive committee of"tho Institute 'The Institute then dealt with tho remits sent forward for consideration by tho annual conference of Institute delegates to bo held at Auckland in January next. Tho whole of the remits,, totalling fifty-seven, were passed without comment.
