PROPOSED MEMORIALS. An endeavour is to be made to perpetuato in some tangible form the famo of a number of the statesmen of past (lays, who have helped to make New Zealand what it - is. The Legislative Council has had the matter under its consideration in the form. of a proposal to create somo kind of memorial of tho successive occupants of the Speaker's Uhair in that Chamber. Yesterday a cot:, inittco to which the matter had beon referred, recommended that the Hons. T. Ke )'- ncdy Mncdonnkl and J. lligg ho appointed to confer and investigate during tho recess, and report next session. The recommendation was adopted. Mr. Macilonald said that his colleaguo and himself would ho very glad to be assisted by any persons who had in their possession portraits, documents, or other memorials relating to Speakers of tho Council. They hoped to make the beginning of a series of historical remembrances of mon who had taken a leading part in tho proceedings of Parliament, and they would be grateful for any assistanco from members and tho public.
