THEATRE ROYAL. At tlio Theatre Royal last ovoning an unusually good programme was presented. Barnard and Barnard thrilled the audience with their sharpshnoting exploits; Geo. Sturm gavo a remarkable exhibition of gymnastic juggling and racquet spinning: " Ethel" did souu) wonderful contortions; Nellie Mahcr was vocally (lashing; and the Cronies, tho Ahlborgs, and A. L. Cropp deserve; special mention for thoir contributions. A new programme will bo presentee! this evening. "DR.. BILL." ' '■■■•■ Tho comedy, "Dr. Bill," was performed a second time last night at the' Opera House by the Wellington Dramatic vSociety, assisted by Mr. Charles Blake, the well-known actor. Tlio performance wont a good deal smoother than on the first night, and those/who attend this evening, when an extra presentation will be given in aid of the Shipwreck Relief Society, can be sure of a capital evening's ■ cntortainmont. "A TRIP TO CHINATOWN." " A Trip to Chinatown " is to be played for a short season at His. Majesty's Theatre,, commencing Wednesday next, by a company headed by Miss Vinia do Loitte and Mr. Howard Vernon, two players distinguished in tho world of light opera. The extravaganza is one of the merriest trifles ever imported from America, and with such artists in the leading roles, excellent houses should result. MISS ROSE BLANEY'S CONCERT. By request of her numerous friends in Woflington Mrs. M. Irvine (nee Miss Rose Blaneyj will give a concert in the Town Hall on Monday, Decermier 2. _ This will be the only opportunity of hearing this talented singer, as she leaves almost immediately on her return to London. She will bo assisted by the best local talent. " WONDERLAND." There is to be some exhilarating excitement at " Wonderland" (at Miramar) this afternoon, when the first series of toboggan races will be run off, and those who intend to compote have yet time to enter, as the management has extended the time of entry until 3 p.m. to-day. Tho first prize is £3 35., the second £2 25., and the third 10s. Gd. The art. of toboganning does not take several years to perfect; in fact, no previous knowledge is required. Tho attractions of "Wonderland by night" are too many to detail. Trams leave for Miramar every few minutes.* - "HOME, SWEET HOME." Tho Opera House will be occupied on Tuesday 1 evening and following nine nights by Mr. Allan Hamilton's new dramatic company. Tho initial performance will bo a drama of domestic interest, entitled "Home, Sweet Homo," which has already secured' a great success at tho hands of tho present com.binatipn in the North. .. The scope of the piece 'is considerable, and throughout the motif is romantic. Tho box-plan for the season is rapidly filling up at Holliday's. • COMPLIMENTARY CONCERT. A full houso is expected on the occasion of tho complimentary concert to bo tendered to Horr Max Hoppe- on Wednesday next. Tho bbx : plan is now open at.tho Dresden.'
Tho Pollard Opera Company, which has just concluded a highly-successful season m Gisbome, , passed . through Wellington to Lyttolton yesterday on the _ steamer Victoria, having booked to "opon in'Christchurch (tho second season) on Monday next in " His 'Highness the Bey." The other bill, " Bluebell in Fairyland ". (by Seymour Hicks), lias proved a steady draw wherever the pretty fairy opera has boon'played, and Wellington has something to look forward ten in_ tnat connection. Mr. Ernest Schatz, who is interested in tho management of the company, has returned from, a visit to Sydnoy ana Melbourne, where he has collected a number of girls for specialty business. Other, engagements include Miss Clarico Buckmann (sister of Miss Itosina Buckmann), who is the possessor of a good mezzo-soprano voice, and -Master Hubert Carter, who has a lino alto voice The company-opens in ' Wellington m a fortnight's time.
The dramatic performance arranged by mcnibers of the Girls' Realm Guild was repeated last night'.in.Sydney .'Street Schoolroom, when there was a packed house. All the pieces went oven hotter than they had done on tho previous day, and the 'audience was most appreciative. Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Pluriket .were present.
A performance of "A Prodigal Son" will bo given at tho Upper Hutt on Monday oveiung. At the conclusion, a.dance will be lield, under tho direction of- Mrs. J. W. Foley.
