UPPER HUTT TOWN DISTRICT.
At the first meeting of the new committee, in connection with the Upper Hutt Town district proposals, Messrs. J. T. Benge, T. ]?. Jioyd, J. Craig, P. 1). Davis, T. Edwards, A. J. M'Curdy, and W. Greig were, present. Mr. J. T. Bonge, who presided at the latter part of the public meeting of November 16, was elected chairman of the committee. The action of Mr. M'Curdy in preparing a petition was endorsed, and tho boundaries were fixed to include the 1245 acres (exclusive of main road area) extending from sections 121 and 217 on the upper end of tho settlement to sections .03, 91, and 125 on the Wellington end, all inclusive. The number of dwellings within that area was stated to be 160, excluding 'those untcnanted and in course of construction. The card was pricked, and it was found that of the ICO householders, at least 130 wore in favour of a town district, while of the remaining 30 not more than a dozen at most were " irreconcilables." Mr. M'Curdy was authorised to proceed with tho obtaining of signatures, with a view to having the town district gazetted, if possible, at tho end of tho current quarterly period.
