FEILDING.

During the last two years ' there have been condemned at the Feilding abattoir 139 head of cattle. It is suggested here that, failing the inspection given: slaughtered stock by the abattoir manager, a large number of these beasts would have run the risk of being disposed of for human consumption. The Ruahine correspondent of the " Feilding Star" says ideal spring weather is being experienced.. Feed is very plentiful, and , everything points to a good season for dairy farmers. . A meeting of tho committee of tho Feilding Athletic Club was held on Tuesday, Mr. D. Pryde (vice-president) in the chair. The secretary of the North Island Athletic Union wrote asking the club 'to affiliate. After , discussion it was decided to inform the Union that the Club was 'affiliated with the New Zealand Athletic Union, and that there was ho need to join any other body. Cash and trophies to the value of £25 2s. have been collected. Officers for the boxing days sports were elected. : Through the efforts of Councillors Bramwell, Atkinson and Trolley, who comprise' the abattoir committee ,of the Feilding Morough Council, a loan has been obtained from the Treasury for the installation of a cool storage chamber at the Feilding abattoir. Council will make up the balance' from the abattoirs credit account. The Government has granted tlie loan at 4 per cent, .interest. As the abattoir fee .being collected at the present will cover the cost 'of, tho. loan, in addition to meeting'the :other charges at the abattoir, the butchers will not be called 011 to increase their payments to. the abattoir, and the ratepayers, will-get. the benefit of the cool storage chamber without any additional taxation.
