Eleven hundred free Chinese storekeepers in tho Transvaal have petitioned tho Chinese Minister in London, protesting .against die Asiatic Registration Act. Tho Act, they say, imposes a degrading inspection, reducing them to a lower level than the African natives. Such treatment, they urge, is only fit for slaves. They add that thoy aro willing to submit to voluntary registration; otherwise tho.v claim to be repatriated with full compensation. Tho provision of tho ordinance most complained of is tho indontification by fingerprint.
