Air. W. F. Massey (Leader of the Opposition) received word yesterday of the death of his father-in-law, Mr. Walter ]Paul, of Mangere, Auckland, a very old settler. Mr. Massey received the news too'late to attend the funeral.
Mr. H. J. Greenslade, M.H.R., leaves for the Waikato this morning.
Mr. J. Bollard, M.H.R., left for Auckland yesterday morning.
Mr. R. J. Paull, proprietor 0f.,,-the " Waikato Times," leaves for homo to-day after a business visit to Wellington, .

Mr. T. A. Walker, Inspector of Industrial Schools, leaves to-day to conduct the annual inspections and examinations of day schooia attached to industrial schools.
Lieutenant-Colonel Loveday, the officer commanding Now Zealand school cadets, left for the South on Saturday to complete his inspection of ,the Canterbury and Otagj districts.
At tho meeting of the Soddon Memorial Committeo last night a vote of condolence was passed to the wife and family of the late Mr. J. E. Page,' who was secretary ' of tha ~ committeo, at the time of his death.
Mr. W. S. La Trobe, director of the Welling" • ton Technical School, who has boen absent] iu Australia for the past three weeks,; has resumed duty. He returned to Wellington via Auckland-and the Main Trunk Line. (

Mrs. Costollo (nee Miss Kitty Blaney), a well-known vocalist, is at present staying with her sister, Mrs. Irvine (nee Miss Rose Blaney) at the Grand Hotel. Mrs. Costello is to sing at the concert to be given in tho Town Hall by Mrs. Irvine on December 2.
Mr. W. A. Kennedy, local' manager of the Union Steamship Company, who is in the South, is to leave Lyttelton for Wellington thisj evening by the new turbine-engine ferry steamer Maori, which will arrive in Wellington for the first time to-morrow morning.
Mr. V. R. Meredith, of Wellington, who passed his final solicitor's examination with credit last year, has decided to begin practising in Hunterville. Mr. Meredith will be well remembered in this city as a representative Rpgby footballer for some five seasons, the last two, 1901-2, as captain. He is also a culturcd vocalist, and when in Dunedin recently was the leading baritone for the Opcratic Society, his last appearance being in "The Geisha," in which opera he was associated in the "lead" with Miss Amy Murphy.
