THE GROWTH OF MARTINBOROUCH.
Martinborough is a large district, and fertile. On cne: side,, there stretches .ai'length of forty miles of as- good: country as can be found in the dominion. .It is stated "that thousands of acres will one day be 'utilise'd;in this area for dairy farms, and that cheese and butter factories will,.bo.,as common as..they are in Taranaki. North and east are miles and miles of sheep country, with'; valleys .'suitable for all kinds, of cattle..; The;; district, too, is well adapted", foivgrain. growing.- AH the roads north, south, cast, and west lead direct into Martinborough, and there are several outlets to all town area's. An instance of this is given in the location of, the property which is to be sold in-MastcftonTon Saturday? next by Messrs. Dalgety and Company. It'"is" approached practically by three streets. One, a diagonal lino, runs right .to' the Post, .Office;:; and past the handsome business premises which are being erected by the. W.F.C.A.—a .three minutes' walk. Another takes one on to the main street which leads to Fcatherston, and which will bo nearer to the. proposed .railway line than any portion of Martinborough. The remaining road lends on to Ponatahi and. Gladstone. Buildings are springing up in Martinborough in all directions. A railway-league has been formed there, with members-pledged to push on thoir project. The town is:now being surveyed by Mr. Laing-Moason for'a water 6upply, and it is stated that drainaeo"will follow on immediately afterwards.
