ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
SUPPOSED PTOMAINE' POISONING. » (BY TEKBGHArH—r-RESS ASSOCIATION.)'' Dur.edin, November 16. Hormann Louis Sachtlcr, iron-moulder,' aged nineteen years, died at the hospital yesterday, the supposed cause of death being poisoning, caused through eating tinned fish. The deceased and six companions wont for a picnic last Monday, all partaking of some tinned goods. On the evening of Wednesday deceased complained of pains in tho stomacn, and on Friday ho was removed to the hospital. None of deceased's companions suffered m consequence,, of having eaten tho tinned goods. • DEATH AFTER BATHING. Wanganui, -November 17. George Williams Bell, a baker, aged about forty-soyen,. was found dead on tho-river bank this morning. Deceased, who was a sufferer from heart disease, lincl been to tho public baths with his son a short time beforo his death. DEATH UNDEI}. CHLOROFORM. Ghristchurch, November 16. A patient named James Robertson died under chloroform at tho hospital on Friday night. Robertson, who was a middle-aged man, was admitted to tho hospital suffering from an internal obstruction, and an operation was commonced shortly after 10 o'clock. The anaesthetic was administered in tho usual way, and the operation proceeded successfully, and was almost finished when the patient's heart fluttered and stopped. Efforts to restore the heart's action proved unavailing, An inques,t was held last night when a verdict was returned that death was duo to shock following an operatiou. PECULIAR DEATH. Waihi, November 15. Mr. Eric M'Millan, a bush contractor, who sustained a fracture of the leg while jacking logs last Monday, and who shortly after admission to the hospital sank into unconsciousness, died last night. Medical evidence at the inquest showed that death was caused by fat from tho broken bono getting into tho circulation anu plugging up the smaller vessels of tho brain. Fat was also found in the heart, lungs, and livor. DROWNING FATALITF. Palmerston, November 15. Information .was received by the Palmerston police on Thursday ovening that tho body of Charles Mitchell, who was drowned in September in the Oroua river, had been recovered that afternoon at Oroua Bridge. At tho inquest hold at Palmerston yesterday a verdict was returned that the deceased had boon accidentally drowned while in a state of intoxication.
