Tho "Corrispondonza Romatia," which is .■considered to bo inspired by tho Holy Seo ■contains a long account of tho dispute botweon the Vatican and Father Tyrrell. , Tho iotirnal quotes a lottor showing that .Father Tyrrell promised not to publish any kind of tlicological work, oithor through corres-pondence-'or by any othor moans of publication, without tho necessary authoraation. Permission was thereupon given to him to cclohrato Mass, hat on tho day following it was ascertained that he had boon writing to tho ''Giornalo d'ltalia," having rofuscd to accept tho condition that ho should suh--1 mit his correspondence to censorship. As for tho contention that tho Vatican wished to control private corrospondonco,, tho "Corrispondftfcta Romana" declareß thatthis was not meant in tho common acceptation of tho words. Tho Vatican meroly de- ! sirod to assure itself that such correspondence would not take an indirect form of propaganda.
