THOUSANDS OF WORKMEN DISCHARGED. (Rec. Nov. 17, 4.25 p.m.) New York, November 16. The total amount of gold imported into Now York amounts to £13,000,000. Tho receivers in tho Knickerbocker Trust report that many of tho assets cannot bo realised at present or in tho near future. Thousands more workmen havo boon discharged in various industrial centres in America.

Mr. Morgan's negotiations to obtain gold from the Bank of Franco have failed. ANOTHER SUICIDE. SENSATION AT HAMBURG. (Reo. Nov. 17, 4.25 p.m.) Hamburg, November 16. A tremendous sensation has been caused on the local Bourso by the suicide of J. Ballin, a broker, brothor ot the manager of the Hamburg-American steamship line.
