DISTRICT REPORTS.

(DT TELEGRAM—SrECUL CORRESPONDENTS.)

The Kairanga Company will open a factory on Monday at Longbum. Numerous invitations have been sent out, and it h expected that the Dairy Commissioner will be present.

The Longburn freezing works will resume operations on. Wednesday next. An authority on dairying has informed our Manawatu correspondent that generally along the coast the quality of butter is not up to last year's standard. This is accounted for by the bad weather, bad feed, and the state of the cow sheds, which are greatly against a good grade. Instances of this are found in'* Manawatu, irrespectively of any outside localities. It is expected that the quantity of milk will exceed that of last year owing to cows; coming in earlier. More factories aro consigning butter this year than last year. All round the Feilding district (writes our correspondent) the country is looking splendid. Grass is growing fast, and there is an abundance of feed for cattle and sheep, and the settlers are well satisfied with their prospects. A Feilding farmor who has just passod through the country says that the grain 'crops are looking well all through the countryside. He noticed particularly a nice crop of wheat in the Fordell district. In all the country ho covered the grain crops wore coming on nicely. The recent. weather had made the ground so nice and warm that conditions now were just perfect, and made the hearts of the farmers glad. He had just finished his shearing, and the clips had turned out woll. Mr. J. Knight, a Feilding pastoralist, has overy reason to be well satisfied with taking sheep to Wanganui Show. lie made nine entries and won a mention with every one.
