POULTRY MEN SPARRING.
' ■ SOCIETIES AT VARIANCE. ' '• /'■'/. THE CAMP DIVIDING. / The;conflict -between the orthodox poultry fanciers', and the ManawatiijA. and-P. , Association, still continues.. The latest tactical incident in 'the, warfare is the decison of Mr. Jarvis', • the "father" of the specialty poultry clubs of New Zealand, to resign all his connections,. and. shake the. dust of tho orthodox faction from his feet. The history of, the trouble .was rather fully stated in The Dominion at the time of the last show at £almerston. :; .Mr. Jarvis has now. authorised us to publish the following statement of ;his reasons for resigning :-— .
."1 Have worked very extensively foruio fancy, at a , : loss'■ to myself of about soO a year, , and-I have never desired iri.any way to bo paid. But seeing that >y chief interest as a fanner was wrapped up m the A. arid P.' Association, I have felt it rather keenly, that the North.lsland Poultry bodioa have .hitherto, worked ,to injure-that Association and the farmers of ivlanawatu. On account of the discontent of two or thrco members of the Manawatu Poulty Association- thoy withdrew from . the A: and P. Association, and-secured a-decision not to license th'e latter body to.hold a show. Tho A..and P. Association resolved, therefore, to hold a show untrammelled by any society, and I and others exhibited. We wore ; consequently disqualified, which was unjust, seeing".that''we'had been quite prepared to , hold the show under a license, if. obtainable At a subsequent meeting of the North Island Poultry Association, an Auckland motion to. rovoko the disqualifications and griint licenses for tho' future was defeated, and I now feel, as ah houourable mail, that I need no longer 'work for a body of fanciers who aro determined ,W perpetuate this quarrel. As a protest against their action I am resigning all my/-poultry positions.' I have been pre- : siderit/'of the .Orpington' Club,- vice-president, of.the Wanganui Poultry Association, secretary of .the ' Wyandotto, the Water I'owl, end the, Leghorn and Minorca Clubs, and a member : of the Taihapo, Pahiatua, Wollmgtonj and •' Hastings Poultry Associations. I know that:the North Island is up in arms about what : Has ,beon dono,' but wo are now determined that the Manawatu A. and P. Association shall for tho future hold shows independently of any poultry organisation." • Even if the disqualifications are revolted P "Yes< Wo' are-determined to show that we are .not,.to be trifled-with." . .-
Your" exhibitors, being disqualified/will have only/your show" to exhibit at? i .'.'No/matter.' We can. offer as much inducement in prize money as six other poultry •hows, put: together, and also will rank-as a gtandard'show." ".' . ' •■'..'
■' Yoii will'become a sort of rival' New Zeal- ; and; poultry organisation ? Do .you think ether,-'bodies , '-will'join jcou? "It"is'not.at;all unlikely.". ■'•'•*■' .
