HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
A meeting of the Hutt County Council waa held yesterday, there being present:—Councillors J. Wakeham (chairman), J. Whiteman, M.. W. Welch, F. T. Mooro, H. J, Jillett, AV. Galloway, T. Robertson, and.M. J. Lynch. A sitting in committee was first held, and tho following recommendations were subsequently adopted in open Council: 1. That 10 per cent, additional charges on rates payable by Miss Brock be remitted; 2. that tho resignation of G. Harris, roadman, bo accepted, and that his son, G. D, S. Harris, be appointed to the position; 3. that the Haywards Land Co. be offered an even exchange of roads, and if this bo not acceptable the Council' open the old road and ford at once; 4. that tho offer of J. W. M'Kain for the supply of dog-collars ho accepted; 5. that .two years' rent be paid for tho nightsoil depot at Mungaroa (certain, matters relating to tho dumping of soil wero referred to the councillor of the riding aud the inspector for a report); 6. that 10 per cent, on rates payable by the Wellington Racing Club be collected. Tho Council's inspector (Mr. Cudby) reported:—!. That a 16-foot bridge had been erected on the Western Hutt road 'at Paraparaumu. 2. That a small bridgo was badly needed near Blackie's Bridge in the Horokiwi Valley. It would be necessary to raiso tho height of tho structure 2ft. 6in. higher than tho present bridge, which was frequently submerged two feet in flood time. 3. That the Wainuiomata main road bridge had now been completed. Tho roads throughout the county had not been much affected by floods.' -Small slips had been cleared away from tho eastern side of Paekakariki hill, and general repairs to various, roads had been effected. • ' v r '. \_^, The report was adopted. '"' The committee''set'up to report on the establishment of a pound at Porirua reported that the necessary land could be' obtained from tho Porirua Syndicato at a reasonable rate. Further consideration of the matter was held over. Messrs. Sinclair and Sladden waited upon tho Council with a request that the necossary steps bo taken to obtain a public railway crossing near Belmont, as shown on ulnn submitted. Tho plan was approved and tlw request granted, the syndicato concerned to defray all expenses. ! '■■ An application from H..C. Gibbons and Co., regarding culverts required at Blenheim Street ami the entrance to the firm's nursery'gardens at Taita, was held over for tho present. Messrs. Howell Bros, were granted, permission subject to the usual conditions; to construct, at their own cost, a culvert across Kapiti Street, Paraparaumu, and a waterpipe from tho reserve. It was decided that tho Minister for Public Works bo requested to exempt (that portion of the Days Bay road fronting: Section' 31, from the provisions of Section' 117 of the Public Works Act, 1905. Tho Council decided to iritimato to the Health Department that the condemned mulling at Upper Hutt, occupied by Francis, an old man, would bo pulled down if tho Department would provide a homo for the tenant thereof. ' ' ' L. Gostro was appointed ranger for the Hutt County, at a salary of £100 per annum and driving fees, tho appointment to bo from December 1, 1907, until November .30, 1908. Accounts amounting to £1372 os. 2d. woro passed for payment. A special meeting of the Council will bo hold on Thursday, November 21, at "'p.m.,'. to consider: (1) the balance-sheet; (2) hy. laws; (3) the striking of a spccinl riite to moot the interest on £150 .vMition&l loan for Day's Bay works, and (-1) nomination of delegates for Hospital and Charitablo Aid Board elections.
