Members of the Opposition patty met m Mr. Massey's room, Parliament Buildings, last evening at! the supper adjournment, for the purpose of making'a presentation to the daughters of Mr. Lethbridge, M.H.R., who is one of the Opposition whips. The presentation was .made by Mri Massey to Mr. Lethbridge, on behalf of his daughters, One 'of whom was married recently, and another of whom is to be married shortly. The presents consisted of two handsome silver salvers, and the gifts were suitably acknowledged by the member for Oroua. Lady. Hector is sole executrix in the ostate of the late Sir James Hector. Mr. J. W. Poynton, Public Trustee, has returned from Christclrarch, but is still enjoying holiday leave. A number of Presbyterian ministers who have been attending the session of the Gene- ' ral Assembly loft for. the South last night. Mr. Harry Rovcll, 8.A., A native of Ashburton, has been chosen by Canterbury Collego as its'candidate for the' Rhodes scholarship, j-; Mr. R. W. Holmes, Engineer-in-Chief, will leave Wellington in a few days on an inspection of the North Island Main Trunk Railway works. Ho will be away for about a weeki > ; , . EV Wright, of Mastertoli, t formerly of this city, has been' 'offered and accepted the position of-Secretary Of tho Hawke's Bay Employers' Association. Ho will take up his new duties about the beginning of December. According to the "Yorkshire Evening Post" of October 2, E. Watkins, of the New Zealand professional rugby team, wrenched his knee while practising at Hcadinglcy. It was expected that he ..would bo out of tho team for a few weeks. . Mr. J. E. Thomas,' engineer to tho Karori Borough Council* tendered his resignation at tho Council meeting last night, in pursuance of his intention, to engage in private business. Complimentary references to '■ the engineer's work in the borough wero made by Councillors, ami the resignation Was accepted with regret. Mr. Alfred Flinders, for twelve years in ' chargo of the entoring department of Messrs. Ross and Glondinning, died at the Otaki Sanatorium early yesterday morning after a long illness. Mr. Flinders had the misfor- • tunc to contract a very sovcro cold two years ago, which developed into consumption. He had been treated at tho Cambridge .(Auckland) and Rock and Pillar (Otago) Sanatoria, but for tho last three months had been at the Otaki Consumptive Hospital. Mr. Flindors, who was a popular momber of tho Wellington Bowling Club, leaves a "widow and two children;. Mr. Flindors was forty- -' four years of age. The funeral will leave the Wellington and Manawatu .railway station for Karori at 9 a.m. to-day.
