At the Women's Conference held in connection with the Women's Work Exhibition m the other day, a paper was ready by. Mrs. E. W. Hawker (S.A'.j :on " the best method of interesting women in politics. She- said that no one method was sufficient,' and it was necessary to adopt that most suited to tho capacity and circumstances -of those they wished to 'interest. Members of political associations should bo well up in all.questions of the day, so, as to be. able to answer questions and explain both to those who did not know, and th9SO who had wrong ideas'-on political subjects. .'The distribution of pampßMs and was of great value. Much could .birdone. by. giving children lessons and illustrations in schools, and quite small children of'the kindergarten age could be given an interest in politics. -Members' of the Labour '.party had organised entertainments for ; school .children, and given them politica] lectures. and lessons. In South Australia it 'was. linown that many State school teachers imbued tho children with socialistic ideas. As girls. grew older much might be done by organising reading classes and debating societies to discuss political "questions. The best'way to arouse tho' interest' .of mothers 'would be by showing how the proposed legislation would affect their children. There should be a central organisation with local' ■ committees. Each one should have some work to do.. She moved, " That the different 'womon's organisations represented do all in -their, power to arouse the interest of-women 'in politics." ' ' , Mrs. Jenkins (N.S.W.), in seconding tho. motibn, advocated , a personal canvass of women electors. ... „ • , . Mrs.' Molyneux Parlies, (N.S.W.) hoped jthat tho Womon's vote would be used to effect, improvement in the character of the members sent to Parliament. ■ : 'Miss Grace Watson , (Victoria) said _ that the greatest ' difficulty had been found in inducing women to talk.
