RIFLE SHOOTING.
WELLINGTON DISTRICT ■ VOLUNTEER ASSOCIATION.,. ANNUAL MEETING AT TRENTHAM. Nothing could havo been more hopeless and dispiriting to riflemen, than the atrocious weather which ushered in tho morning of the Wellington District Volunteer Rifle Association's annual meeting. Notwithstanding this, tho'competitors entrained at Wellington Station at 7 a.m., and hoped for the best.' Shooting commenced in a soaking drizzle, about half-past; nine. For a ivhito tho sky looked promising, and the rain slackened and stopped. Then tho wind rose, a "l(i degree right" wind, anil the rain set in for good. All through tho dismal day, tho riflemen peered through the drizzle at tho targets, wot to tho skin, but doggedly determined to see the "shoot" through to a. finish. Tho only pieco of good fortune which brightened up tho prospect, was the excellent repast provided by Mrs. Hagah. "Ceaso fire" sounded at 5.35 p.m., just too lato for ':he men to entrain for town by tho returning Volunteer "special," nml they hnng about until after 7 iij.m., when a train cSmo along and received them—a much appreciated sanctuary. Tho results are as follow No. I.—TRENTHAM MATCH. Open' to Volunteers and to members of tho Permanent forces Ride Club. 200 yds., 10 shots, and 1 sighter. Soniors. P'mj. Sc'e. s. Pvt.
