LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
LAND BILL. 'pASSEDi The Legislative Council sat ''last evoning. The' Land Laws Amendment ' Bill was re-'-.committed, and a' few machinery amendments were made on the motion of -the At-torney-General. " The Bill was read-a third time and passed. ' FIRST READINCS. The Factories Act Amendment Bill and , iho Flour and Other Products Monopoly Prevention Bill were received from the House of Representatives, .and read a'first time. FINAL STACES. The Agricultural Labourers' Accommodation Bill was read a third time and passed. The Government Advances to Settlors Bill, the Agricultural Implement Manufacture; Importation and Sale Bill, and the Taumarunui Town Council Election Validation Bill were put through committee, read a third time and passed. A new clause was added to the last-named measure to give the Taumarunui Town Council power to administer the Public Health Act. The Attorney-General explained that it was necessary, that steps should be at once taken to improve,th4 sanitation of Taumarunui, and the course indicated :in tho clause was recommended by Dr. Maisori 1 .! " The Town Districts Bill , was next coramit- , -ted. ' ■ , " . , I The Hon. R. A. Loughnan moved to give powers under the Public Health Act to all jfown Boards. : The Attorney-General promised to confer ! vith his colleagues with'a view to effecting fan'amendment in the Lower House. ■ The Bill was reported without amendment, read a Hiird time and passed. The' Statutes E.epeal Bill was also put through committee and final stages. , COAL MINES BILL. ' The second reading of the Coal Mines Act Amendment Bill, which passed through tho Lower I House in; charge of the Hon. J. 'M'Gowan, Minister of Mines,, was moved by \the Attorney-General, who,said the principal jSbject of the; Bilj was ,to. bring the Coal iMines • Act into line with the., Mining Acts Where tho latter applied. .It -.was ,■ based largely on the recommendations of a conSercnco cf Wardens. . . | . Tho Hon. J. .R. Sinclair ap\Pr.oval of tho Bill, and. the second . reading ■ jwas carried. ' SEA FISHERIES BILL. Tho Attorney-General then moved the sec- . end reading of tho Sea Fisheries Bill, which shas . passed through the House of Representatives, and which is intended to provide for the control arid preservation of oyster beds in the Auckland district. .The Hon. S. Thorne George opposed the Bill, and said he thought the State was going too far. The Adjournment was moved, by the Hon. S. ;T. George, arid agreed to by the AttornoyGenoral, who romarked that the Council liad done a Aood evening's work., Tho Council roso at 9.45 p.m.
