Colonel Robin is to leave for the South' to-day, on business connected with the Easter manoeuvres of the Southern military districts. Mr. A. A. Stuart-Menteath has been incapacitated by a severe attack of influenza, and will bo kept in bed for somo days. • Mr. J. S. Tennant, of the Education Board's staff of inspectors, is to leave fop the South to-day, to join the Hinemoa, which goes to the Southern Islands in connection with the scientific expedition. Mr. Gilbert Vero Bogle is the Victoria College candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship for Now Zealand this year. Mr. Bogle, who is attached to the staff of the Wellington' College, is a fine all-round athlete and anadvanced scholar. Professor H. B. Kirk, of the staff of the Victoria College,, who is to accompany the scientific expedition to the Southern Islands (wliioh leaves 'the Bluff on Thursday by the Hinomoa), left for the south last everiing. After a long illness, Mr. Donald M'Bean, •jun., died at the hospital on Sunday. Deceased, who was foreman of Messrs. Luke and Company's pattern shop, was fifty-one years of age, and was bom in Glasgow. He was in the employ of Messrs.. Luke and. Company for twonty-four years, and leaves a widow and a family of six—three daughters and three sons. The interment will thko place this morning. • , Mr. L. S. Humphries, of. Humphries Brothers, builders, who has boon away from Now Zealand since April, is now in Sydney, and will probably be back in Wellington on November 20. Mr. Humphries spent most of' his time in Canada and at Toronto on September 2 he presided at a meeting in Toronto, which was attended by over three hundred builders and contractors. The meeting resulted in .the inception of a federation called tho Canadian' National Association of Builders. The Presbytorian General Assembly passed a resolution yesterday, moved by Dr. Gibb, "That tho Assembly, having learned of the illness of Mr. G. A. Troup, desires to impress its sincere sympathy with him, and its • prayer for his speody restoration to perfect health. The Assembly greatly regrottedMr. Troup's enforced absence from the Youth of tho Church rally, recognising, as it dos«, that tho marked advance of the Bible clan movement, with its manifold helpful developments within the Dominion, is in no smill measure due to his unfailing wisdom, rare tact, and tireless energy."
