SPECIAL COnBESrONDESTB.) At tlic Court yesterday,. -W. Mathieson was gharged with having disposed or a gig by chance, the same having-been raffled at the recent bazaar in aid of tlio Terri.ce End' Technical School. Defendant- stated that lie had liiade no gain by the transaction, as the gig was given in aid of a public- body. The Magistrate commented strongly upon the action, and said that not only was defendant liable to a heavy penalty, but : aHo those who. ,hnd purchased tickets.. He would he lined fu, with costs. ; Detective Quartermain, of the Wellington finger-print' bureau, came "to l'almoriitoiV yesterday to give oridenco' of identification in the case of theft against' James Mansfield'.' The prisoner's finger prints had been taken and forwarded to Wellington,'with the result that he was identified as one Madigan, alias Cripps, who had boon before the Courts on similar . charges. Up to the. time ,of going into Court the prisoner stoutly denied, his identity with that of Madigan and but in Court he admitted the previous,.convictions under those aliases..The. prispner. was charged with the theft of a rug and. .coat] Ho was sentence:! to two months' imprispnnient oil cach charge. . .
