RIFLE SHOOTING.

TRENTHAM. Perfect weather attended the first of tlio three teams' Shield matches .(seniors and juniors), instituted by I lie Wellington District Volunteer Rifle Association. The ranges were at 200, SOI), and GOO yards, each man being "Mowed 7 shots, and one compulsory sighter. Each team consisted of ten men, and all the scores counted. The time allowance for each I'nngo was as follow—2oo yards, 30 minutes; 500 yards, 40 minutes; mid COO yards, r>o minutes, ■> In each of the three matches the following scale of marks are to bo allowed:—lst, i points; 2nd, 3 points; :>rd, 2 points; and Ith, 1 point. In the senior match (four teams) tho City Rifles' curried oil the honours with a score of SGI, Private W. M. Jackson, senr., lopping tho list v.-itli 9G points. The Post and Tolesropli RiHes came second with S4S points, Private W. Smith occupying the place of honour with !I2 points. The Highlanders were third with 81!j, ton scorer Private Conibeare, with 00 points. The Guards finished last, although their best shot, Private Amniodt, put up a fine scoro of 96. The Zealandia Hides came « Tory close third with-664 points, their two hcpt aggregates being Si's, obtained by Private Hill ami Sergeant Sc-hulenberg. KARORI RIFLE CLUB v. 11.51.5. CHAL- ■ LENGER (in men aside). On the Collins Range the Karori Club got off an enjoyable match with a team from H.M.S?. Challenger, am) eventually defeated their 'opponents by 118 points. At tho 200 yds. range the Knroi'i rillvmcn led by 21 points, and at the longer distances slid right away from their competitors. The club afterwards entertained the bluejackets nt afternoon tea. Mr. A. C. Pearce, Afn.vor Oi Karori, in a short sjjvech. said that it was a great pleasure to meet, such sportsman-like opponents, and hoped thai ii return match would be arranged. Lieut. I!.
