" CURIOUS^SCENES. Two thousand ■ persons attended the funeral service of a wealthy butcher, at a 'Jlomaii Catholic ; church in Brooklyn, United States,,'on September G. Aftei' the body had, been...placed in .the hoarse ...the mourners intending to drive to tho cemetery left -the church, but found that their drivers had deserted their posts. Seeking an explanation, tho mourners learned that the troublo was due, to the drivers belonging to three separate and antagonistic labour unious, tho merits! of which were angrily discussed wliilo the priest was saying Mass. Tho undertaker .vainly appealed to tho men to drop an unseemly quarrel,- but every minuto tho mob 1 increased,- and the police reserves were summoned. . The captain tried to reason -with the men. They continued defiant, until he read tlio section of the Penal Code relating to the ' blocking of traffic and.interferoii.ee with funerals. .. Fearful of arrest, .the drivers agreed to go to the cemetory. The .hearse went alone, then the carriages followed along three separate routes, as the members of each union refused to drive behind the members of arj' otli'.'J'
