Thoro was a large attendance nt the weekly meeting on Monday . night of the Mental Science Society, when Mr.. Roberts gavo a very interesting paper... on consciousness. He dealt in-a-general way with tho varying'degrees of consciousness, of • the. lowest forms of atomic life to that found in the highest. Instinct .is fast disappearing mid man is evolving to a conscious realisation that his organisation, is, adapted for. other possibilities s or demands. Instinct 1 is being ■ replaced :by conscience, tho voice ■of the , past. , '.Consciousness has by its own energies gathered its experiences,' and has learnt to some degree the art of selfmastery.
