His Worship said,that,'ho had looked up various authorities on'the subject, and concluded that defendant was on. the Street for the purpose alleged in tho information. Evidence was then given,by.-defendant,,con-tradicting the statement, of the policeman that money, passed between defendant and another- man on the occasion, referred to, and .this other man also sworo: that ..tho constable was wrong. His Worship, said that,. notwithstanding the , donial of ,tho.-.de-fence, ho would convict. Tho wbolo; conduct of defendant iras that of a guilty man. Ho Jiad, bolted when- aceosted : by ,tho constable. Tho practice of botting in tho streets was becoming an intolerable nuisance'Tho maximum ponalty would bo imposed —defendant would bo fined £5 and costs.
