Tho nature ; . of. these regulations prcclud'es the prospect of any more capital being forthcoming.' / i The original, regulations of the Board, of Commerco which controls _ these matters' in China were issued some time ago, and .were strongly objected to:, by foreign - capitalists. The main mineral 'is coal, and China is regarded as- one of the first coal countries in the world. As an instance, it may be stated that the coal mines at Kai-ping, Northern Chih-li, originally'a Chinese eutorprise,'but now;under the• management' of a British company, yielded 300,000 tons in 1903. From the iron mines at Ta-yeli 130,000 tons of ore and limestone were turned out in 1903. Other, metals are found, and copper-mining is an old industry.. ■.. , -. .
