( There was an attendance of about fifty at , 1 the meeting'of the Trades' and Labour Counoil last night, Mr. MaqLaren presiding. The. : ' 1 ; balance-sheet for the half year ended August 81 waa adopted. It showed the finances to be , to; a very, satisfactory state. The Council ' .Jmwl repaid JJISO; borrowed from the Union, and : there remained a credit balance of £56. -. The "dear loaf", was discussed and condemned. and the. following resolution was carried That, in the opinion of this Council, the time has arrived for the repeal of the duty on flour and wheat, otherwise the bread !' tax; and further that the Council urgo upon the .Government the necessity for establishing . State flour mills as a means of cheapening ' tho' loaf for the worker."
