Messrs.' Griffiths and Cornwall, New Plymouth, claim that a record has been established by their young pure-bred Jersey cow Granny'fi Girl. She calvcd on February 14 last, and has, therefore, been in milk for sevcji months and a half. During tlmt period her milk has been weighed night and morning, rind the.milk for eight consecutive niilkings in the middle of each month has been sampled and tested with the Babcock tester. These'records have been very carefully kept. Tho rosults to September 30 show a total of 7711b. of milk; containing 4811b. 12oz. of.but-, ter-fat. This is a fine yield for only seven months and a half, especially as the averago yield of the Taranalci cow for an entire season is ol)l y!solb. of butter-fat. As,is customary with all good Jerseys, Granny's Girl is a "sticker." Notwithstanding the good work she has already done, she is stiil "going strong." Iler daily yield is now 241b. to 251b. of milk, 'and with tho warmer weather and bettor grass she is improving. For September she gavo 716.}1b. of milk, with an avorago test of 7. With all the spring and the summer before her, she will probably put up a twelve months' record, that will take a lot of beating.
