M'Cullough, tinsmith. in tho Aadington Railway Workshops, has been dismissed from tho Railway 1 Department after twenty-five years' service, as tho result of his refusal to give an undertaking not to take part in political affairs in future. ■ • The regulation which Mr. M'.Cullough was suspended for infringing states very briefly, in black and whito, that members ,of tho railway service may not. take an activo part , ' n beyond. tho recording of their ; votes.-. •■Mγ. , M'Cullough's plea was that he ' had hot seen this regulation, which is printed in'the bound' volume of the Department's rules. 1 His attention having been drawn to the he still refused, it b understood, to give his unconditional assent to the regulation. . , •• -■, .■. ' Mr..M'Cullough will bo entitled to a refund, without, interest, of all amounts paid , in by him to the Superannuation Fund of the ..papart'mont. ;If ho had romaincd in tho •service till his sixtieth year, or been incapacitated by accident or illness at any time in ••■the.interval, he would .havo been entitled to receive l superannuation payment amounting , Jo one-sixtieth part of, salary for every year of; service, up to forty years. ■It is rumoured that Mr. M'Culfough will bb a candidate at tho next opportunity for the position of workers' representative on tho ■.
