A special meeting of the Wellington executive of , the Now Zealand-Farmers' Union is likely to be held shortly. Poultry fanciers will be interested to ; loarn that Mr. A. Rogan, well: known in Wellington as a big winner of. poultry prizes, rought out by the Arawa a number of valuable birds, including somo turkeys. Some turkeys for' Melbourne were also landed by him at Hobart. ■ During the month of September, 65,0991b. of milk were received at the llongokokako Co-operative Choose Company's Factory, as against 40,5591b. received in September last year. TEN MILES OF SMOKE.. ; Things are moving : in Poverty Bay. The "Herald" of the district says: Tlio big burn which took placo at Maagatu last summer, when 4700 acres of hush went up in smoke; is to he superceded by an even larger one this yeai\ Mr. Buchanan, who last year cleared some 3000 acres, is felling . 2000 acres, whilst Mr. Dods, adjoining, is bringing down 1200 acres, and Messrs. Barron Bros, are also clearing an extensive area. . Unitedly in this block there will ho over: 5000. acres alono which wi\l all be fired at the same timo. - Other settlers' higher up tlio valley are also bringing large areas into occupation, including Messrs. Jackson, Campbell, Martin, Barton, and Puttullo. Tho cloaring in the Mangatu district now extends right through to Poututu.
