A special meeting of the Wellington executive of , the Now Zealand-Farmers' Union is likely to be held shortly. Poultry fanciers will be interested to ; loarn that Mr. A. The "Herald" of the district says: Tlio big burn which took placo at Maagatu last summer, when 4700 acres of hush went up in smoke; is to he superceded by an even larger one this yeai\ Mr. Buchanan, who last year cleared some 3000 acres, is felling . 2000 acres, whilst Mr. Dods, adjoining, is bringing down 1200 acres, and Messrs. Barron Bros, are also clearing an extensive area. . Unitedly in this block there will ho over: 5000. acres alono which wi\l all be fired at the same timo. - Other settlers' higher up tlio valley are also bringing large areas into occupation, including Messrs. Jackson, Campbell, Martin, Barton, and Puttullo. Tho cloaring in the Mangatu district now extends right through to Poututu.
