The New South Wales Agent-Genera) (Mr. Coghlan), in a letter to the " Daily News, "replies to an article.in which that paper vehemently assailed Australia, and urged her to make the increase of her population the basic note of great, enduring States. Mr. Coghlan says that Australia's annual increaso in population has been 2.5 per contum. This, he adds, 's oertainly satisfactory, and is likely to bo improved in the near future. Regarding other points in the article, Mr. Coghlan adds that the Australian contribution to the solution' of great questions has been very considerable, and that great questions are not solved without great.men.
