A MEMORIAL CHAPEL. For some time past the want of more commodious premises "for Aug-, lican mission work has boon felt by those connected with St. Peter's Mission, which has been progressing satisfactorily in Taranaki Street for some years now. Lack of funds has hampered the work, but' those interested have not rolaxecl m their, efforts to secure a new chapel. With tho money in hand tho Mission has been at length ! ablo to purchase a section in Taranaki Street opposite Fred- A crick Street), '30ft. by, 156 ft. >''.'.■ At this 3tage Mr. Thomas Ballinger, an esteemed piemb'er of/ St. Peter's Church, arrived back from England, having had to curtail his visit to theOld Country owing to the sad death of his daughter Lillian, who was also interested in church work connected with St. Peter's;, Parish.. Mr. Ballinger has now offered to defray the entire expense of erecting tho new building, _ which is to cost £650, at which price a tender was let to Messrs.. Sanders Bros., at a! meeting! of tho'Building Committee on Tuesday evening. Tho building, "plans for which have been designed by Mr. F. de J. Clero, diocesan architect, will consist' of a serviceable one-storey brick edifice, containing .a - large niis-sion-hall and ante-rooms. The work is to bo proceeded .-with- forthwith and v the foundation stone (which will. contain an inscription to the effect that tho chapel is a memorial to tho lato ' Miss • Ballinger.) is to bo laid by His Excellency the Governor on Wednesday, October.l 6. Meanwhile there is a.mortgage over the land, and a special appeal i 3 being made to the public to come forward and wipo it out, so that the Mission may commonco its wort in tho new building . unhampered by financial burdens. The Rev. G. P. Davys and Mr. W. H. Walton (who has been in charge of ;iho Mission for tho past three years) are willing to receive contributions towards getting rid of this incubus.
