~' Tho Taranaki executive of tho Farmers' Union at a meeting at Hawe'ra last week resolved to convoy to the Minister of Labour tho executive's conviction that tho non-exclu-sion of farm labourers for the.sphere of tho Arbitration Act would seriously cripple small dairymen. If such labourers-, were! hot excluded by the, amending - legislation ':',tho'. executive urged that'at least/the members of/adarryman's family- should bo exempt from any award. The Tariff Bill was unfavourably criticised, and it was resolved to keep a record of the votes of Taranaki mombers of Parliament who had subscribed to tho policy of the Union, and to suggest to other provincial executives to do tho same. A matter affecting residents near centres where trains rarely stop' was touched by the following resolution:— "That the Railway Department be respectfully.'rcquested to allow persons to travel by goods' trains on signing air indemnity forih, such form-to be made an order, to the guard in charge of train." Mr Maxwell was authorised to proceed to, Wellington if an urgont meeting of tho Colonial Exccutivo should be called to deal with pending legislation.

The annual-horse.parade under the auspices of tho Canterbury A. .and P. There were on parade 20 draught stallions, six thoroughbreds, ll roadsters, carriago horses,' arid trotters, one hackney and a Welsh cob. No prizes were offered .this year for draught stallions, and,'"whether it Was due to this fact or not, the avorago quality of tho horses was about tho poorest seen on tho ground. There wcrp.fcw really good horses, but a large proportion of coarse-legged, rough-haired, and - light-barrelled animals. Condition was not so high as usual, and this no doubt'accentuated tho weak point.
