THE NERVOUS CHILD

Suppose you were a nervous, child, Just seven years old like me. And grown-ups said at time for bed; v “Now don’t you frightened be! There’s nothing in the dark to fear. That’s just the wind outside you hear!” Although your blood was running cold Could you be sensible and bold ? If you heard something like a groan You couldn’t even see. Could you lie wondering 7 alone Just what that noise might be. Pretending you weren’t scared at all And never for your mother call? Could you believe what you were told. If you were only seven years old? Suppose you knew as grown-ups say, No goblins walk at night. Would you prefer alone to stay Upstairs without a light? And if you woke in darkness black Gould you to sleep go calmly back Or would you, spite of all they’d said, Beg to be let in daddy’s bed?
