MULE AGED 40.
Three horses and a one-eyed mole, all war veterans, were returned to England from Belgium by Our Dumb Friends’ League last month. They were still at work when rescued. The mule, said to be 10 years old, came from a mine, where its right eye was put out so that it would always keep to the left. The horses are estimated to be about 30 years old. Corrected. The policeman was giving evidence is a case of assault. “He was fighting his wife, your worship. when I arrested him and —” “When ’e rescued mo, yer lordship." interrupted the prisoner. Hopeful. A small boy entered a poat-otllce and handed a shilling to the counter clerk with a request to be told whether it was a good oue. The coin, on being tested, bent readily, and was handed back with the information that it was a "dud," and that the post-oflicc couldn’t change it The boy departed, but returned ten minutes later to inquire; "Mr. says, 'Will you please betid this back again, so that ho can change it somewhere else?’ ” The agitated customer entered the chemist’s shop. “A few days ago you sold me a plaster to help me to get rid of my lumbago,” he said. “That’s right, sir," replied the chemist. "And what can I have the pleasure of doing for you now?” "I want you to give me something to get rid of the plaster.” "How are you getting on ul your job. Bill?” "Fine. I’ve got five men under me now.” "Really!” "Yes —1 work upstairs.” Visitor: “You don’t mean to tell me that you have lived in this out-of-the-way place for over thirty years?” Inhabitant: “I have.” Visitor: “But, really, I cannot see what you can find to keep you busy.” Inhabitant: “Neither can I that’s why I like It.”
