Mining
The Waeuga miners have been busy stripping another paddock at a point where highly payable ground was previously worked, and are now treating the wash. At another point in the claim some of the men are engaged driving a tunnel into the flat to test this wide area. It was started above flood level in a soft section of the reef, which continues, and good progress is being made. The tunnel is being taken down on an even grade to tap the deeper ground at the back. On the area adjoining this party an elevating plant is being and water is to be conserved from rights on the hill above. In the same locality, further down stream, another party is reported to have struck rich wash.
Boring is to be carried out over a wide area near the junction of Bendigo Gully and the Clutha, and for tlie purpose a Keystone drill was landed on the claim last week. It is authentically reported that several drills will be at work on the Clutha, above Lowburn, in the near future. Tenders are invited for driving the low-level tunnel at the New Bendigo Company’s mine and specifications can be seen at this office. In view of this there is every prospect of work being continued on this area at an early date. Several miners are actively enure. Several miners are actively engaged on the Rise and Shine mine, but at the moment this is the only activity of any importance on the Bendigo reefing areas.
