Bannockburn Scout Birthday.

Or or sixty persons, young and old. gatlieied at the Scout Hut on Saturday evening-, 12th mst.. to celebrate the third Birthday of the Bannoekhurn Scout 'Trooj). Scouts and C aides were presenl from all over tlie Cromwell district. while Commissioner C. K. Richards headed a strong parly from Alexandra. The opening ceremony consisted of the pitching oi' the tents, the hoisting- and saluting of the flag, followed hy the National Anthem. Well chosen games tilled In trTif (•veiling all too rapidly, the most exciting event being a tug-01-war between six teams. In toe final the* Bannockburn Guides, pulling with seven Guides, had a verj decisive* victory over the Cromwell Scouts who were allowed five men. The brilliant moonlight was a contributing factor to the Happiness of this outdoor function. At ().i5 p.m., Richards lit the Camp-fire. and as the flames leaped up, gave the beautiful opening ceremony. Then followed items and speeches in quick order until finally the Scouts dispensed supper in splendid style, the cutting of a large and well 'decorated hirthdav cake proving a fitting climax. The evening would not have been complete, however, without the closing ceremony led by the Guides and the singing of the Guide Hymn, “Taps,”
