A MUSICAL COMEDY.

The tall, long-haired youth entered the music publisher's office carrying under his arm a small roll of paper. "Good afternoon!" said the publisher. "What can Ido for you." The youth looked nervous. "Well —er —I have a song here," he began, "and I was wondering if you would publish it. Er —shall I sing it?" "Oh, yes, let's hear it!" said the publisher; and the youth stood up and burst forth. When the song was finished the publisher sat very still and said nothing. "Well," asked the young man, "what do I get for it?" "Oh," replied the publisher, with an air of resignation, "I'm a publisher, not a magistrate!" GRATITUDE. They were late for the theatre. The box-office clerk was as polite as only a box-office clerk can be, but, ho couldn't find them a seat. But they were knowing ones, and tbey slipped round the side and man aged to find an attendant who let them in. At the first interval they felt for their hats, to go home. "I want to see that man in the boxoffice before we go," said one, "and tip him." "Why?" asked the other. "Well, he did his best to keep ue out."

A man bought some sausages and asked his landlady to cook them for his breakfast. "How'll I cook them?" she asked. "Pry 'em like Ash," replied the lodger. The next morning, when the landlady served them, she remarked: "I hope you'll enjoy your breakfast, sir; but there's not much in these things •when they're cleaned out."
