SOLO TO AUSTRALIA. Without early announcement as to his ,plans, Cap.. Chichester, a New Zealander, who lias previously flown from England to Australia set out on a solo flight from New Zealand to Australia. Mis machine, a Moth plane, is equipped with a wireless set and navigaton instruments and the flight is tho first of the kind undertaken solo. He lelC Hobsouvilie-, Auckland, at 6 a.m., on Saturday morning landing at Parengareuga, near the northern point of the province, where he refuelled before i opping off. He proposed to do tho journey via Norfolk Claud. 400 miles aKvay. and Howe Island, making three hops. Ho left the starting point at'Tkirengarenga at 11.20 a.m. Signals were sent from the plane at intervals. That received at 1 p.m., was that he was 120 miles out, in good weather and going well with a rear \vvind. The .plane reached Norfolk Island at 4.45 p.m. The second stage of the flight was commenced on Sunday morning but owing to unfavourable weather the plane had to return to the Island. It was not expected to resume the flight until to-day. THE MISSING LINER. There is still no word of the missing liner, Southern Cloudi, and the general opinion now is that the machine crashed in the sea. RACING. The following are the results of Saturday’s racing: OTAUTAU.
