Governor-Generals Visit.
At Thursday's borough council meeting the official intimation announcing the visit of Their Excellencies, the Governor General, Sir Charles, and Lady Alice Fergusson, to Cromwell on October 19th, was read. His Excellency wished to avoid the expenditure of any public money on such occasions, and extended invitation to the Mayor and Mayoress at lunch.
The Mayor had replied that the citizens looked forward with pleasure to meeting their Excellencies. The invitation extended to himself and Mayoress had' been acknowledged. As the arrival was timed for 1 p.m., the Mayor suggested that the public reception take place at 2 p.m. If the day was fine the Memorial Grounds would be ideal for the reception, but if unfavorable the Athemeuni Hall would be usfcd. He had spoken to the bandmaster who said the band would be present, and to the Rector of the High School, who would arrange the children. Some discussion took place as to the nature of the reception and it was agreed that a committee consisting of the Mayor, Crs. Hayward, Roberts, and Sanders, be appointed to make arrangements.
