Cromwell Borough Council
The fortnightly meeting of the above was held on Thursday. Pres ent: The Mayor (Mr A M. Brodrick), Crs Wishart, Varcoe, Jones, Orr, and Jolly. Minutes of last meeting were confirmed.
Inward correspondence was dealt with as follows :
The Vincent County Council and Alexandra Borough Council wrote supporting the council's resolution re improved accommodation on Central railway. The Railway Department advised that the request would be given full consideration. A'letter from the Motor Owners Association was received and left on the table until next meeting. Tho Public Works Department notified that the vote of £IOO for sand protection had been paid to the credit of the council. —Received.
From the Treasury, Wellington, intimating that £l2 Is 2d, interest on loan of .£ISOO, was now due, — Passed for payment. Mr H. Q.uarterman applied for permission to make use of the footpath, while engaged evecting new buildings opposite Dawson's Hotel.—Granted. A letter from Roxburgh, regarding a benefit to the wife of the late W. Maloney, was referred to a committee consisting of Cfs Varcoe, Jones, and Wishart. The bank book showed a debit balance of £l9l 13s 3d, with temporary loans £350. Reports. Cr Wishart (Water Committee), reported an abundant supply of water. Mt. Pisa supply had gone off that day, but he was sending a man out next day. The pipes lines on both supplies were in good order.—Received. Cr Jolly (Works Committee), reported that he was getting the necessary material for repairs to the water channels near the school residence Messrs Todd Bros, had carried out the council's request.— Received.
The" dayman atteudc I and made application for an increase in wages. He pointed out that the price of horse feed had gone up very considerably, and his expenses generally were heavy. As Cr Sanders, supervisor of the dayman's duties, was not present, a suggestion that the application be held over until next meeting was adopted. Cr Wishart considered the application reasonable, and was supported by other councillors. The dayman was informed that the question would be favorably considered at next meeting. Councillors spoke in appreciation of the dayman's work, and the manner in which it was being carried out.
In reply to Cr Jolly the Mayor sail the question of a Fallen Soldiers Memorial had been deferred until after the holidays. The borough solicitor intimated that he had not yet written further to the owner of wandering sheep, but would do so at once,
The meeting closed with the usual vote to the chair.
