Fruits of Sea Power.
One of the fruits of sea power wa> demonstrated when the Spanish stoamer Moutserrat, from Mexico, arrived at Barcelonia. She had on board 200 Frenchmen from Mexico, who embarked there after the declara tion of war to help in the defence o'. their native land ; IGO Germans from Mexico also embarked iu the Montserrat at Vera Cruz, but were detained by British cruisers. It iresfcimated that over 200,000 Germans living abroad have already been detained in this way, thanks to the vigilance of the British Fleet. Even the Germans living in Spain have not yet been able to return to their own couotry, a3 they can neither cross France nor get to auy Continental port by boat. Two hundred thousand men horse di combat ! This is as good as a great victory in the field. It is even bettei than a great military success sine; the victory in this case has bjon gain ed without any loss, by the mere expression of will.=—•' No thoroughfare !
