Cromwell Hospital Trust.

The monthly meeting of the above was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday 1 -Itb, at 4[> in. Present Messrs Abel, Ray, Heaney and Goodger. Owing to the absence of the chairman Mr Abel was voted to the chair. • CuIUIESI’OXJJENCK. From Dr Valintine iu connection with fever and maternity wards, stating he would forward plans of same as soon as possible.—Received. From Inspector General of Hospitals as follows ;—•

“ I was pleased to note during my recent inspection the change for the better in your Hospital. The wards looked clean and the patients well cared for. T understand that your committee is considering the erection of a maternity ward. Might I suggest the conversion of the infectious diseases ward for the purpose. The ward could be used for two maternity patients, but better bath and closet accommodation would be needed. This could be added ou the western side, using the present bath room as a passage thereto. The new bathrooms, etc., should be cut otf by cross ventilation. If you could kindly scud me a sketch plan I could show you exactly what I think might be done to convert the ward for the purpose. A wide verandah should also be provided ou the northern aspect and the window converted into a door to give the patients easy access to the verandah. I quite approve the suggestion of the matron to convert the linen room by removal of the cupboards—into a small operating room. In place of the wardsraan, I would suggest that a competent woman be appointed to help the matron. —Received. Reports. The Surgeon reported that during the month of February nine patients were admitted and two remained over from previous month, of these four were discharged cured or relieved, and one died, viz., Alexander Cowan, of Gibbston, of enteric fever. Six still remain, making a total of eleven patients under treatment for the. month. The Matron reported receiving ,£l6 Gs -id for maintenance fees for the month, and outstanding nil. The visiting committee reported everything as in a satisfactory condition the grounds being well kept and the inside the same.—Received, Accounts amounting to £49 14s 3d were passed for payment. Several details in connection with the maternity ward and a few minor matters were discussed, and it was arranged to forward some particular’s to Inspector General in connection with the building of fever ward ; also the engaging of a servant was left in the hands of ‘Mr Ray and Secretary to deal with. A vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
